Tips to Slay Your Sabotage:

There will always be someone, somewhere doing “better” than you in terms of traditional success and numbers. It is a fact. So, you might as well just let it go.

It is impossible to truly compare two people. You can only compare the outer layers. You are comparing two people who started in different places and who will end up in different places. Who is “ahead” or “behind” during the middle bit does not matter.

You don’t have to use traditional metrics to define success. You get to make those up yourself. Do you want to work different hours? Do you want more travel in your job? Do you want to spend more time on your own or with family? If you determine what you are working toward, you can feel like you are in your own lane, and therefore anyone else’s metric of success doesn’t matter. It is true that there is “room for all of us.” There is room for everyone to win.

Collaborate. Collaborating feels good; it’s good for our overall well-being. I feel better in my mind and body when I am lifting others up. I feel more loving, fulfilled, better at my job, and happier overall. I feel more connected to the world.

Imperfect meditation. Take ten minutes to sit and observe how you feel. You don’t need to sit cross-legged and feel “Zen”—just observe your thoughts without judgment.

Let it out. Instead of quieting a feeling, write it down, or put on some music and have a good cry. Better out than in.

If you find yourself in an unhealthy rut, look for “hacks” that will force you to change things up. Always checking social media first thing in the morning before you start your day? Try putting your phone in another room before you go to bed. If you find yourself refreshing someone’s page, add a Wi-Fi block for a few hours.

Feel your feelings. Allow yourself to be present and aware even of uncomfortable or negative emotions. Our feelings are clues to our desires and true selves. You might be surprised about what you learn.
